SEE EXACTLY WHAT WORK REALLY COSTS

Cost of a Vacancy Calculator

Every day a seat sits empty has a price. Lost output, overtime cover, contractors, and recruiting — added up.

What does an unfilled position really cost?

An empty seat looks like savings — you aren't paying a salary. But the work the role produces stops, or lands on colleagues as overtime. This calculator values each working day at salary × a value multiplier ÷ 260, multiplies by the days the role stays open, subtracts the salary you didn't pay, then adds recruiting, overtime cover at 1.5×, contractor spend, and interview time. The result is the true daily price of a slow hiring process.

Frequently asked questions

Take the daily value the role produces — annual salary × a revenue/value multiplier, divided by 260 working days — and multiply by the number of working days the seat stays empty. Then add what you spend covering and filling it: overtime for the team picking up the slack, contractors or temps, recruiting fees, and the hiring team's interview time.
